Applying a Vinyl Decal Here are some simple steps toward applying a vinyl decal
![]()
- Designate the area you want to apply your decal. Measure the area and above it mark a straight, level line with masking tape to use as a guideline.
- Using the guideline, take your unpeeled vinyl decal and tape the top of it, following the masking tape, to the substrate.
- Invert the decal and tape up and out of the way. Clean the decal area with alcohol and water. After it is cleaned spray the area with a mixture of dishwashing liquid and water. Do not dry, off because the solution will allow you to move and adjust you decal.
- Remove the paper backing (not decal transfer tape) and place design down on the wet surface.
- Move decal around until it is in the proper position. With a small squeegee scrape over decal pushing out any excess water and air bubbles.
- Spray the transfer side of the design with solution to aid easy removal. Peel away transfer tape from design.
Use an Xacto knife to trim between any door frames or seems the design may run across.
You may want to lightly burnish decal with a heat gun to further the adhesion.
